About Brian D. Bethune

Brian Bethune photo Brian Douglas Bethune was born in Eugene, Oregon. He served in the United States Navy from 1973 through 1977. Upon discharge he resumed his education and graduated from the University of California (Davis) with the Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. He then attended Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas, Texas. At SMU he participated on the Jessup International Law Moot Court team. He also received an honorable mention for the Don E. Smart Award for his directed research paper entitled, "Arab-Israeli Dispute: An Analysis Under Public International Law." His Juris Doctor was awarded in 1983.

Mr. Bethune began his legal career with a small firm in the D-FW Metroplex. In 1985 he became Associate Counsel for Fruehauf Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, serving as general counsel to the company's local Hobbs Trailers Division. When Hobbs was dismantled as a result of a leveraged buyout, he was offered a position at Fruehauf's headquarters in Detroit. He chose instead to remain in the Metroplex and joined a medium-sized local law firm. In 1990, Mr. Bethune hung out his own shingle.

During his years of practice, Mr. Bethune has had opportunities to apply his expertise in a number of legal areas. He most enjoys the field of family law but also has an extensive practice in the areas of personal injury, commercial transactions, and general civil litigation and trial practice. Mr. Bethune is licensed to appear in all Texas courts, including the Texas Supreme Court, and has appeared in all the U.S. District Courts in Texas.
